Dan Freedman has loved football since he was a schoolboy and today, he uses that passion to encourage kids to read. His Jamie Johnson series features an ordinary boy who, against all odds, manages to triumph as a footballer. His life is not without problems – he lives with his single mum, who struggles a bit, and he has couple of school bullies to deal with, but he manages to get on the school team and win some serious goals. Needless to say, Dan Freedman’s Jamie Johnson series is very popular in schools, even with reluctant readers. In fact, he originally created this prequel, Born to Play, especially for World Book Day.
Although he has a traditional publisher for the series, he approached us earlier this year because he wanted to self-publish an edition of Born to Play to coincide with the launch of an exciting new TV adaptation. This ran on CBBC and is still available on iPlayer. Our design team created a cover that sat well with Dan’s other books and we put together a quality paperback and eBook edition for him.
“Working alongside I_AM Self-Publishing to bring Born to Play to life has been an absolute pleasure. I had a very clear vision of what I hoped the book would look like. Through their care and expertise, Ali and Leila brought this vision to fruition and added their own input and ideas too, which was exactly what I needed. I’m so proud of the book and so grateful to I_AM Self-Publishing. I can’t wait to work with them again.” Dan Freedman
