Maria Inês Rebelo, like a lot of our authors, has been an avid reader from an early age. Her love of language led her to start writing her own story, inspired by the beautiful Portuguese landscape she had grown up in. Not one to shy away from big issues, Maria wanted to explore the nature of the human soul, innate goodness, and to offer a positive message for mankind. These are themes she continues to navigate through, and can also be seen in her follow up book, The Light of Marva.
She came to us because she wanted help publishing her debut novel as professionally as possible. The first thing we set to work on was the cover design. Maria’s writing is very literary and she draws on spiritual and mystical elements, so we wanted to create a design that hinted at the natural beauty of the Portuguese setting, had some emblems of the mystical world, and conveyed to the reader that this was a quality, literary fiction novel. We chose a limited palette to avoid the design becoming over-complicated, and used a flat illustrative style again to keep things simple. Maria loves her unique cover design and has had lots of compliments on the “vintage” feel of it.
“This was my first experience in a self-publishing publication and I am very satisfied with the end result. My book has been thoughtfully created, and the cover is very appealing. Any author has to align their ideas with the needs of the market, without letting anything pass! This can be a challenge without professional guidance. Therefore, I recommend I Am Self-Publishing as a leading company to help authors get their work self-published.” – Maria Inês Rebelo
